In a recent announcement, India's head coach, Rahul Dravid, addressed Virat Kohli's potential participation in the remaining three Tests against England. Dravid emphasized that the selectors would play a crucial role in determining Kohli's availability, hinting at an impending squad announcement in the upcoming days.
Following India's triumphant 106-run victory over England in the second Test, Coach Dravid shed light on the team's approach to the selection process. Despite a resilient effort by England in the fourth innings, India levelled the series 1-1 in Visakhapatnam. England achieved the second-highest total by a touring team in the fourth innings of a Test in India.
In addition to Virat Kohli, India dealt with the absence of injured players KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja in the second Test. Yet, standout performances from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shubman Gill played pivotal roles in India's triumph over the Bazball threat.
With a 10-day hiatus before the third Test in Rajkot on February 15, both teams are expected to regroup. The English side may return to Abu Dhabi for training, while Indian Test stars are likely to take a break ahead of the Rajkot Test.
Coach Dravid, when asked about Kohli's availability, suggested consulting the selectors for the best insights. "It's best to ask the selectors. They are the best people to answer about the team selection for the next three Tests. We'll get to that. There will be a selection in the next few days. We'll connect with him and find out," he stated.
Virat Kohli had chosen to sit out the first two Tests due to personal reasons, leading the BCCI to request restraint from fans and media regarding speculation. Social media posts speculated about Kohli's mother's health, but his brother Vikas clarified and dismissed such rumours.
Adding a personal touch, former South Africa captain AB de Villiers praised Virat Kohli on his YouTube show, revealing that Kohli and Anushka Sharma were expecting their second child. De Villiers emphasized the importance of family priorities and supported Kohli's decision, stating, "Indeed, he's expecting his second child. It's a time for family, and priorities matter to him. If you're not true to yourself, you lose sight of your purpose. I believe family is a top priority for most people. You shouldn't criticize Virat for that. We miss him, but he made the right decision."
