INDIA VS ENGLAND: Shreyas Iyer might not play the remaining matches

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer is confronted with the potential of sitting out the final three Tests against England due to a persistently stiff back, as reported by the Indian Express on February 9. The Test matches are scheduled to take place in Rajkot (February 15-19), Ranchi (February 23-27), and Dharamsala (March 7-11).

According to sources, Iyer, who raised concerns about stiffness in his back and discomfort in the groin area while executing a forward defensive shot, is set to undergo further evaluation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Despite anticipating a return to action next month during the Indian Premier League (IPL), Iyer has informed the Indian team management and medical staff about the uneasiness he encounters after facing more than 30 deliveries.

It was communicated that Iyer experienced stiffness in his back after facing more than 30 balls and also felt pain in his groin while executing a forward defensive shot. Following his surgery, medical advice suggests a few weeks of rest in response to this new development. Consequently, he is slated to proceed to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further assessment, as disclosed by a source to The Indian Express.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding Iyer's participation in the third Test, apprehensions intensified as his playing kits were dispatched to his Mumbai residence instead of being directly sent to the Rajkot venue, along with the rest of the squad's equipment.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to unveil India's squad for the final three Tests on February 9. In the event of Iyer's unavailability, KL Rahul, who is reportedly fit and ready for selection, may step in to fill the void left by Iyer, who occupied the No. 4 position in the second Test.

While there is no official update on Virat Kohli's availability, the former Indian skipper is likely to remain unavailable for the remaining fixtures, having missed the first two Tests due to personal reasons. The potential absence of both Iyer and Kohli poses a substantial challenge for the Indian team in the upcoming Test series against England.
