The U-19 World Cup is approaching its conclusion, with India set to face Australia in the final this Sunday. Throughout India's campaign, several players have played pivotal roles, and among them is Naman Tiwari. The left-arm pacer has successfully claimed 10 wickets in five matches during this tournament. Tiwari attributes his success to star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, whom he considers a significant source of inspiration.
Expressing his admiration for Bumrah, Tiwari stated, "Bumrah is a source of inspiration for us. I frequently watch his bowling videos and have had numerous discussions with him at the NCA about the mentality and skills of a bowler. His guidance on bowling accurate yorkers has been particularly valuable, and I've dedicated significant effort to improving in that aspect based on his advice," Tiwari told PTI Bhasha as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
In terms of his cricketing influences, Tiwari looks up to various bowlers, expressing his admiration for Shoaib Akhtar's speed, Dale Steyn's swing, and Mitchell Starc's aggression. He emphasized the need to incorporate more aggression into his own bowling style and strives to learn from every bowler he admires.
Reflecting on his journey, Tiwari revealed that his father initially discouraged his pursuit of cricket in favor of focusing on studies. However, Tiwari convinced his father to allow him three years to prove himself in cricket, and today, his family is immensely proud of his success. Tiwari acknowledges the pivotal role his family plays in his journey, expressing joy in not having disappointed them.
Looking ahead, Tiwari has ambitious aspirations, expressing a desire to bowl the fastest ball in the world and to represent India in Test cricket. While aiming for a future World Cup appearance with the senior team, he remains focused on continuous improvement, recognizing the challenges that lie ahead and the importance of preparing a solid foundation to face them. As India reaches its fifth consecutive U-19 World Cup final, Tiwari's contributions have been crucial, and the team is on the brink of securing its sixth trophy, aiming to defend its title as the most successful team in U-19 World Cup history.
